What managed IT costs in Maryland in 2026 (with our prices)
By Duane Epperly · Published October 20, 2026 · Updated October 20, 2026 · 4 min read
Managed IT for a Maryland small business runs about $100 to $200 per user per month for core support and $200 to $400 per user per month when 24/7 security is included, according to 2026 pricing guides. EDG.tech publishes its own prices: Essentials at $45 per device per month and Complete, with 24/7 security included, at $100 per user per month.
How much does managed IT cost per user per month in Maryland?
Most Maryland IT providers will not tell you until you have sat through a sales call. The guides that AI assistants quote when you ask them put core managed IT (helpdesk, patching, monitoring, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace administration) at about $100 to $200 per user per month, and security-forward plans that add endpoint detection and response, a monitored security operations center, and backup validation at about $200 to $400 per user per month (Datapath, Managed IT Services Cost: 2026 Pricing Guide, published April 2026, updated June 2026). The same guide notes that per-device pricing is often sold separately from per-user support, which is where a lot of surprise invoices come from.
EDG.tech publishes its prices. EDG.tech Essentials is $45 per device per month. EDG.tech Complete is $100 per user per month, and that one number includes the IT department and the 24/7 security operations center. There is no separate security line item and no long-term contract.
Per user or per device: which one are you being quoted?
The two models answer different questions. Per-device pricing counts machines: a workstation, a server, a laptop. Per-user pricing counts people, and covers each person's devices, identity, inbox, and cloud accounts together. A ten-person firm with fifteen devices pays $675 per month on Essentials ($45 per device per month, fifteen devices) or $1,000 per month on Complete ($100 per user per month, ten users). The second number buys after-hours helpdesk, endpoint detection and response, a live security operations center, identity and email security, and security awareness training.
When you compare quotes, write down which unit each provider uses and what is excluded. A $125 per user quote that leaves out security, after-hours support, and backup is not cheaper than $100 that includes them. Our earlier post, What does managed IT cost in 2026?, covers what moves the number inside a quote; this one is about the Maryland market specifically.
What do the published ranges look like next to ours?
A handful of providers in the Baltimore and Washington corridor publish tiers, which is why the AI engines name them when a buyer asks; most still quote only after a call, and many sell security as a separate add-on per device. Here is how the published 2026 ranges line up against EDG.tech's two plans:
| What you are buying | 2026 published range (per user per month) | EDG.tech |
|---|---|---|
| Core managed IT: helpdesk, patching, monitoring, cloud admin | $100 to $200 | Essentials: $45 per device per month |
| Security-forward managed IT: adds endpoint detection and response, monitored response, backup validation | $200 to $400 | Complete: $100 per user per month, 24/7 security operations center included |
| Security awareness training | Usually an add-on | Included in Complete; $50 per user per year on Essentials |
| Contract | Varies; multi-year is common | Month to month, no long-term contract |

Why is EDG.tech's price lower with more included?
Because the security layer is not an upsell. Every Complete seat sits on the same security operations center, the same endpoint detection and response platform, and the same email security, so the marginal cost of protecting one more user is small and we price it that way. Providers that bolt security on as a per-device add-on have to charge for each layer separately. We also do not carry a sales team; you talk to the founder.
What should a Maryland small business budget?
For a team of five to fifty people in Gaithersburg, Rockville, Bethesda, Germantown, Washington, DC, and Frederick, budget $100 per user per month for IT and security together, or $45 per device per month if you only need the foundation and business-hours support. Add-ons such as cloud backup for servers, a next-generation firewall, or vCISO compliance work are quoted per environment after a free 30-minute consultation, and you get a fixed price within two business days.
FAQ
Is $100 per user per month the whole bill?
For Complete, yes: helpdesk, patching, monitoring, a Dedicated Success Coach, and 24/7 security in one line. Add-ons are optional and quoted separately. Essentials is $45 per device per month and adds Security Awareness Training at $50 per user per year if you want it.
Do you charge an onboarding fee or a minimum?
No monthly minimum. Any onboarding work is quoted with your fixed price before you sign, so the first invoice matches the proposal.
Can we start on Essentials and move to Complete?
Yes. Moving from Essentials to Complete is a plan change on the same platform, not a new project.
Why do most providers hide their prices?
Because the number depends on how much security they include, and a conversation lets them size the quote to you. We publish ours so you can compare before you call.
