Web design · Eleventy & static sites

The fastest, safest website you can own. No plugins to patch, no database to hack.

A static website is built once, in advance, and served as finished pages from servers around the world. Nothing is assembled on the fly, so there is no database to slow down or break into. EDG.tech builds static sites with Eleventy and hosts them on enterprise cloud infrastructure, which is how this website is built: it scores 95 or better on all four Lighthouse categories, and the current measured numbers are published on our web design page. For a business whose site changes a few times a year and needs to be fast, secure, and always up, it is the best website money can buy, and it usually costs less to run than the hosting you pay for now.

Who a static site is for, and who it isn't

Choose Eleventy if your website's job is to earn trust and generate leads; your content changes monthly or less (services, team, locations, a blog you add to on a schedule); you work in a regulated or security-conscious field such as law, healthcare, finance, or government contracting, where “the website got hacked” is an unacceptable sentence; or you're tired of paying for hosting, plugins, and emergency fixes on a site that's slow anyway.

Choose WordPress if your team edits daily, you need an online store or member logins, or you're required to use a brand template. See our WordPress service

How a static-site project runs at EDG.tech

The same four chapters as every EDG.tech web project, with a few steps WordPress never needs and several it can skip.

Review: what you have, how it performs, what has to move

We review the current site the way Google and an AI assistant see it: mobile speed, accessibility errors, the pages that rank and bring traffic, how consistently your business facts appear across the web, and what ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot say about you today. For a static migration we also inventory every URL, every form, and every integration, because on a static site each of those is a deliberate decision.

You get: a scored review, a URL inventory, and a straight answer about whether static fits. If your site needs a store or daily editing, we'll tell you to stay on WordPress and show you how to fix it there.

Consult: designing around how your business changes

An hour, our discovery questionnaire, and one question we spend real time on: how does content change, and who changes it? Static sites publish from a version-controlled source, so every change is tracked and reversible. We decide together whether updates flow through us under a care plan, through a simple editing interface for your team, or both. Forms, scheduling, chat, and analytics are planned as lightweight, serverless connections, so the site stays fast with everything still working.

You get: a fixed-scope proposal, sitemap, content plan with owners, the redirect map, the hosting and update plan, and a price, including what the site will cost to run per month. That number is usually the pleasant surprise.

Build: approved in the open, launched from Git

Design in a live prototype you approve first. Then we build: content in plain, portable files; a lean, accessible front end with motion that respects every visitor's settings; forms that submit through a serverless function and notify you instantly; structured data on every page so search and AI engines read your business correctly. Every build runs through automated checks for speed, accessibility, broken links, and schema before it is allowed to publish. Launch is a DNS change with your email untouched and every old URL redirected.

You get: a site that passes Lighthouse at 95 or better on all four scores with analytics loaded, hosted on infrastructure that scales from ten visitors to ten million without a change, in an account you own.

Optimize: the part static sites make easy

With no plugins to update and nothing to patch, maintenance effort goes entirely into improvement. Under a care plan we publish your updates and posts, watch speed, uptime, and search health, send a monthly report that leads with leads and branded searches, refresh top pages quarterly, and ask the AI assistants about your business again to track whether you're the one being recommended. Because publishing is version-controlled, every change is reviewed, previewed, and reversible.

You get: a website that gets better every quarter, and a bill that pays for improvement rather than firefighting.

Why static beats a CMS when it fits

  • Speed you can feel. Pages are pre-built and served from the edge location nearest each visitor, with no server assembling the page. Search engines rank it; visitors stay on it.
  • Security by subtraction. No database, no plugins, no admin login: most of what gets WordPress sites hacked doesn't exist. Our 24/7 security team still watches the infrastructure it sits on.
  • Always up. Finished pages on a global CDN stay up when traffic spikes or a plugin update would have failed.
  • Found by Google and AI. Clean HTML, instant load, complete structured data, consistent business facts, and answer-first content: the same AEO/GEO practices used on this page.
  • Accessible by design. WCAG 2.2 AA as the baseline, with no overlay widget. Motion respects reduced-motion settings. ADA compliance
  • Costs less to run. Hosting typically runs under $10 a month. No premium plugin renewals, no managed-WordPress hosting tier.
  • You own it, portably. Content in open files, code in your Git repository, infrastructure in your cloud account. Nothing is locked to us.

Investment

Static builds use the same three EDG.tech packages: Essentials Website Launch from $3,000, Optimized Web Presence from $7,000, Fully Managed Digital Partner from $15,000, scoped to page count, integrations, and migration complexity. Where they differ from WordPress is the running cost: hosting that's typically under $10 a month, and a care plan that buys improvement instead of patching. The proposal shows the five-year cost side by side.

Static-site questions, answered

What is a static website, in plain English?

A static website is pre-built: every page is generated in advance and stored as a finished file, then delivered from servers near each visitor. A traditional CMS like WordPress builds each page on request from a database. Pre-built pages load faster, can't be hacked through a database or plugin, and stay up under heavy traffic.

What is Eleventy?

Eleventy is an open-source static site generator, the tool that turns content files and templates into finished web pages. It is fast, flexible, has no lock-in, and produces clean HTML that search engines and AI assistants read easily. We chose it for our own website for those reasons.

How do I update a static site if there's no admin dashboard?

Two options, decided in the consult: send changes to us under a care plan (published same day), or use a simple editing interface we set up for your team, with no code involved. Both track every change and let you roll back.

Can a static site have forms, scheduling, chat, and analytics?

Yes. Forms submit through a small serverless function that emails or texts you instantly; scheduling, chat, and analytics connect as lightweight embeds. This site's consultation form, chatbot, and analytics all work that way.

Is a static site right for e-commerce or a members area?

Usually not. Stores with many products, member logins, and sites edited daily by a team are better served by WordPress, and we'll say so in the review. See our WordPress service

Will my search rankings survive a move from WordPress?

Yes, when it's planned. We inventory every URL, redirect each one permanently to its new home, carry over titles and descriptions, and resubmit the sitemap. Done right, rankings typically improve because the site gets faster and cleaner. Website audit
