Home & field services

Managed IT and cybersecurity for home and field service companies.

EDG.tech runs IT and security for cleaning, landscaping, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pest control, and other field service companies across Gaithersburg, Rockville, Bethesda, Germantown, Washington, DC, and Frederick: scheduling, dispatch, and phones that stay up, crew devices managed, customer records protected, invoices customers can trust. EDG.tech Essentials is $45 per device per month; Complete is $100 per user per month.

Who this is for

For owner-run service companies with roughly 5 to 100 employees, a small office, and crews in the field: residential and commercial cleaning, landscaping and lawn care, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pest control, restoration, and similar trades. Franchisees on a corporate platform are a fit for everything the franchisor does not control, which is usually the office, the devices, and the people.

What is at stake for a service company?

If the schedule is down, the day is gone

A service company's revenue is a calendar: jobs booked, crews dispatched, work confirmed, invoices sent. When the scheduling platform, the office PC that runs it, or the phone system is unavailable for a morning, the jobs do not get done later, they get done by a competitor. The cost is the day's billings plus the customers who booked elsewhere.

Fake invoices in your name

The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center recorded 24,768 business email compromise complaints and $3.05 billion in losses in 2025. The service-company version is a customer paying an invoice that looks like yours to an account that is not, after your email was spoofed or an office mailbox was taken over, and the customer who paid twice does not come back.

Customer records are personal information under Maryland law

Addresses, gate codes, alarm codes, phone numbers, and card details for every customer sit in your scheduling and payment systems. Maryland's Personal Information Protection Act requires reasonable security for that data and notice to affected individuals within 45 days of discovering a breach. A stolen office laptop with the customer list on it starts that clock.

What do Maryland law and your card processor ask of a service company?

Service companies have no industry regulator for data, but two obligations apply to all of them. Maryland's Personal Information Protection Act covers your customer and employee records, with a reasonable-security duty and a 45-day breach notice. If you take card payments, your payment processor holds you to the PCI Data Security Standard, which for most service companies means not storing card numbers, using the processor's secure terminals and payment pages, and keeping the office network patched and protected; the processor and its assessors own the formal compliance and the questionnaire. Companies with government or property-management clients increasingly see security language in contracts, and cyber-insurance carriers ask for multi-factor authentication and backups before they quote. EDG.tech keeps the technical side true and helps you answer the processor's questionnaire with evidence from your actual environment.

How does EDG.tech serve home and field service companies?

Dispatch, scheduling, and phones that do not go down

The office machines that run your scheduling platform are monitored and backed up, the internet connection has a failover, the phone system is set up to ring crews' mobiles if the office line fails, and when the vendor's cloud app has a problem we sit on hold with their support so your office manager does not have to.

Crew phones and tablets you can manage from the office

Company phones and tablets are enrolled so a lost device in a customer's driveway is wiped remotely, the scheduling and payment apps are kept updated, personal use is kept separate, and a new crew member's device is working the morning they start, with access removed the day they leave.

Customer data and card payments handled the way the processor expects

Card numbers are never written down or stored on the office PC; payments go through the processor's secure terminals and pages. Customer records, including gate and alarm codes, are encrypted at rest and backed up, and the office network is separated from any guest or shop Wi-Fi.

Invoices your customers can trust

Email authentication so nobody can send mail as your company, monitoring for lookalike domains, impersonation detection on any message about payment details, and a simple rule your office follows for any bank-detail change, so the invoice with your logo on it is always yours.

Which plan fits a service company?

Smart, affordable IT management & cybersecurity.

See EDG.tech Essentials

Most service companies start on Essentials. Per-device pricing fits a business with a few office computers and a fleet of crew phones and tablets, and it covers the monitoring, patching, backup, and core protection the business runs on. Complete fits companies with a larger office staff, a bookkeeper moving significant money, or commercial clients whose contracts require 24/7 monitoring and identity protection.

EDG.tech Complete is $100 per user per month. Compare both plans

"A service company does not need a security program on paper. It needs the schedule to load at 6 AM, the phones to ring, and nobody to steal a customer's card number. We build for that day," says Duane Epperly, founder of EDG.tech.

“We have used Duane and crew for our tech support for several years for our small business. We are small enough not to need someone full time but large enough to need someone regularly. They have implemented many changes over the years. Countless quarantined emails later, and we are still safe and sound! Plus, they can take any wild, futuristic idea and make it a reality!”

Service company IT questions, answered

What does IT support cost for a small service company?

EDG.tech Essentials is $45 per device per month, month to month with no long-term contract. A company with three office computers and ten crew tablets pays $585 per month, and the crew devices are included at the same rate as the office machines. Complete is $100 per user per month for companies that need 24/7 security monitoring and identity protection for office staff.

Can you manage our crews' phones and tablets?

Yes. Company-owned devices are enrolled so we can update apps, enforce a passcode, and wipe a lost device remotely, while keeping the crew's personal use separate. We set up new devices before the crew member's first day and remove access the day they leave. Personal phones can get the scheduling app with limited access if you prefer.

Do you support our scheduling and dispatch software?

Yes. We support the field service, scheduling, estimating, and payment platforms you already use, keep the office machines and devices that run them healthy, and work the vendor's support line when a problem is on their side. We do not resell any of them, so our advice on switching or staying is only advice.

We have a franchise platform that runs our website and marketing. Where does EDG.tech fit?

We handle everything the franchisor does not: your office computers, crew devices, email, phones, local network, backups, and the security of your customer and payment data. Where the platform's work affects yours, we document what we find and hand the franchisor's team a precise list, which gets more fixed than frustration does.
